Resumen

The educational strategies pursued by agronomist, revolutionary thinker, and politician Amílcar Cabral, assassinated in 1973, who provided the decolonial struggles in the Portuguese colonized territories of Africa, education encompassed an impressive range of militant ideas pertaining to the organization of the immediate resistance as well to the formation of future citizens. In Guinea Bissau, learning took place in the Liberated Zones themselves, in nomadic makeshift schools that were carried through the jungle by the guerrilla fighters. However, not limited to this, the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) also founded the so-called Escola Piloto (Pilot School) in the neighboring Conakry, the capital of the Republic of Guinea. Based on the twelve-minute film “Navigating the Pilot School” produced by Filipa César and Sónia Vaz Borges—the result of research of PAIGC Militant education system through various documentary material such as video and oral history and memory research—this 'visual' paper focuses on a multisensory history of education, the space and school environment of PAIGC Pilot school, guided by reconstructed and residual oral memories of this educational space.
